EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured, evidence-based therapy for trauma and PTSD, also used for anxiety, phobias, grief and some chronic pain. You briefly focus on a distressing memory while following bilateral stimulation: eye movements, taps or tones. Over sets, the memory loses its charge. You don’t have to describe the event in detail.
It’s recommended for PTSD by the WHO, NICE (UK) and the APA (US). Single-event trauma often resolves in 6–12 sessions; complex trauma takes longer. Every city page explains what to expect in the first sessions and what it costs locally.

EMDRIA Certified Therapist (US) or EMDR Association UK Accredited Practitioner (UK): supervised clinical hours and ongoing consultation beyond basic training.
EMDRIA Approved Consultant or EMDR Association UK Accredited Consultant: trains and supervises other EMDR therapists. Highest level listed.
